PARSONS BFA AND AAS IN HOUSE SHOW

I had the opportunity to see the BFA/AAS in house showcase last week and I was so happy to see so many innovative designs. I had already seen a few collections the prior week a the jury and was in awe at some of the technical techniques used to constructed the garments and accessories.
One designer who stood out to be among everyone else was Katherine Kim and she was inspired by the 1940's housewife and use the graphic shapes and prints to convey the idea. I can tell that she really thought through the pieces and how they would make a cohesive collection. I adored the use of the latex gloves in the fire(ry) (not a word) color. And how the layers where interchangeable. It gave the collection sophistication as well as sex appeal.

There were other great designs as well, but she was a front runner for me. Take a look below at some quick images I was able to grab as I ran through the show on my break from knitting class (thats right! KNITTING!)

Amazing to see how much can be done in a semester. I was informed that these designs had been sent off to Italy to be made after the students had create the mock ups.
Coach bag competition winners.

The shoes were killer!!!! I was obsessed. Through in a wedge and a pop of neon and I am sold:)
Although children's wear is not my thing, I was intrigued with the bold designs the students were able to achieve for such small people.

SHOOTING IN THE SANDBOX

So today I started at 7:00am. For some reason I just couldn't wake up!!! I am not sure if it's because I have been going through finals or what? But I managed to get up and make my way over to SandBox Studios @ 250 Hudson to shoot with Benjamin Stone. As you know I have worked with him a lot in the past when I first started out last year. His work has grown tremendously and I am happy to have the opportunity to work with him again for this test shoot. Arriving on set I see old faces as well as new ones.

The cast for the day:

Photography: Benjamin Stone
Styling: Jarrod Kentrell
Make up: Moani Lee
Hair: Gonn Kinoshita
Model: Hannelie @ MC2

The clothing was already prepared by Benjamin from a friend of his who had designed the garments. He just wanted me to style it and put my spin on it...so I tried. The clothes gave a slight nod to Commes Des Garcons through its construction and play with proportions. I enjoyed manipulating the garments and creating new shapes. Hannelie was amazing to work with and kept the energy so fun and light. As usual we were aiming for 6 looks, but ended up with a complete 5 (which is fine with me). I was actually happy with majority of the work that was produced today as a team as well as from myself. We ended the day at 6'0'clock! I am glad that I was able to capture some moments on my phone.

Gonn, Hannalie, and I laugh throughout the morning :)

SandBox Studios on 250 Hudson Street

A shot from the end of the day...Hannalie still full of energy!

Gonn's choice of hair reminded me of the past season at the spring Dior Haute Couture show . Can you see where I am coming from?

Trying to make this turban work for me..and ofcourse adding feathers to make it even more difficult to manage :)

I had to steal a peek:) A untouched imaged from the end of the day.

First shot of the day..that damn turban was giving me all kind of hell, but you know I made it work right?!?

FINAL REVIEW FOR BFA FINE ARTS SOPHOMORES

So to the end the year the sophomores finished with final reviews. Each student was scheduled a time and room and had to curate a mini show for themselves to be critiqued on. I found it very difficult to go back through the work I had done throughout the entire year and select what pieces I felt were the strongest as well as most cohesive in theme and content. Regardless I made choices and below is what I ended up with as my final result.

Two 3ftx3ft paintings created from oil paint. These with me 2 among a series.
photography and costumes from my performance pieces through out the year. Although of them dealing with sexuality, transformation, and transcendence. I also had a video playing which was a rough draft for many projects to follow.

LONG OVER DUE

So I am back!! Yaaay! It has been awhile since I have been able to communicate through blogger, but alas I am back at it. I am guessing because the summer time is closer and I have more time on my hands to do more personal projects. I will be styling a shoot this Saturday with Benjamin Stone ( long time no shoot). I am looking forward to it and can not wait to see what he has in store for me.

Since the last time I was here I switched my major from fashion design to fine arts. It has been a long journey, but one that I feel was well worth it! I couldn't be any happier with this semesters results. I will try and catch you guys up on everything.

I am still working at Ralph Lauren and almost have one year under my belt. It has been so exciting working for a brand that you truly believe in want to growth with. We have opened a new store on Prince Street and Greene (old REPLAY store for all the New Yorkers) in Soho. It is amazing and I will be moving there this month and leaving the Bleecker Street mens store behind. So many things have changed and I am looking forward to rekindling my relationship to the web again.

Talk soon.

KATE SOMERS

Here is are some samples of a shoot I styled with Kate Somers as the model. I was so happy with how this shoot turned out. Kate was such a pleasure to work with and really knew how to push through the camera to create emotion.

I was lucky enough to have Stacy Ciciron (AMAZING!) for hair and Elliott for make up and Harry for the photography. I am still waiting to hear about Korean Elle and some other options. I was able to use up and coming designers from Parsons New School for Design. They recently graduated in 2010 and will be out in the field this coming year. Thanks to Becca Carr and Jamie McCarty. Thank you both!

This shoot took place in Brooklyn at the Mrytle stop. Although it was raining he shoot was a success. More to come:)

Korean ELLE/Dazed and Confused

Once again I was given the opportunity to assist Beagy Zielinski, but this time as the first assistant and I brought my good friend Megan Luby along as second assistant. I am thankful that this shoot was a lot smaller than the Tyra banks situation and a lot these time consuming. The theme was tribal. Using every designer to create an eclectic look. Beads, fabrics scarped, scarfs, and body paint all played equal parts in helping to manifest a tribal feel. Beagy did a great job! She was able to build the looks in order as the day went along until the grand finale which included a goat hair coat from Norisol Ferrari. I am not quit sure when the photos will go into print, but it should be exciting either way:)

SOME QUICK RESULTS FROM HALLE
I was so happy to see where the photos ended up after the long day of shooting. I was so please to see that Halle came through as power on paper as she did in person. I am sure that she is a rising start nonetheless. Here are some quick turn around results that Ben was so nice enough to share with me.

HAIL TO HELLE
This past Monday I was asked to style another shoot. Did I do it..hmm..hell ya I did! I am trying to build my book this summer from nothing so that I can start to build relationships and create a place for myself in this industry we call fashion (Corrrrnnny) but I am being honest when I say that though. It is hard to break into, but once you are in the work never ends and the ideas have to be endless as well as thoughtful and creative. I had the pleasure of working with a great model from FORD MODELS by the name of Helle. She is a true model. Came so prepare to work the set and create a magical evening for everyone. I am on love with the final product and can not wait to see them in print. I chose to go with a 90's esque power bitch for the one. I think Helle was able to portray that pretty well and make us all believe in the 90's all over again. I had the help of such a great team to make it all possible. Hair was created by Stacey Ciciron, photography by Benjamin Stone, Make up was made possible by MAC's own Bradford Knight, and styling my me Jarrod K:)

As usual I grabbed a quick image of the screen before packing up of a final picture. I am so happy with what I was seeing thus far and can not wait to see the final results when Ben is all done editing. Helle looks amazing here right?..no?
Recent Parsons New School for Design graduate Raeana was nice enough to lend me some of her amazing furs for the shoot. I was so impressed with the quality of the pieces she chose to bring to the shoot. Purple furs that transformed into black and blues. All of the jackets shared a common thread and use of extended shoulder pads that created extra drama. I was in love with everything she brought. I also adored her nicely tailored pants that proved to be a god send for the last shot of the day. I will soon be doing an interview with Raeana so that we can get a clear understanding of her vision now that school is done and the real life of a designer begins.
Clothes for the day provided by Massa Culture, BCBG Max Azria, and Raeana. Amazed at the great support and supply that we were able to get for the shoot. Ofcourse a showroom would be ideal, but I find that there is something really great about using independent designers and showcasing there talents. Great job guys:)
This is not just a simple gluestick, this is what was use to matte and hold Helle's brows down before applying foundation over them to erase them out all together. I really wanted a naked face freed from any expression that would be made by the brows. I loved it in the end.
Helle gets in the mood while Stacey does some final touches. It's in the eyes:)

Helle in her first look of the evening. I was so happy with the bra layers I was able to do as well as the great pieces from Massa Culture created by Sabrina Massa. Check her out at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=521800920&ref=ts#!/profile.php?id=521800920&v=wall&ref=ts. Here work was great for this shoot because I was able to interchange tops for bottoms, back to front, and visa versa. I am so happy that I was able to team up with Sabrina and utilize her great talents as a designer.
Stacey Ciciron never ceases to amaze me with her hair styling techniques. She had me dying when I saw this bowtail she whipped up from nowhere. I had such a strong vision for the hair, but had to readjust after not being able to find the tracks (weave, extensions, etc) for the look I was wanting to achieve. So after disappointment I was so pleased to see that Stacey had come up with such a great solution to this hair nightmare I was having. Thanks Stacey!!!! Check her out at http://www.staceyciceron.com/

There is always time to play around. Helle and I decided to use our downtime to make faces in the mirror. (notice she is fucking up the lips already:( sorry Bradford)

Helle gets silly for a minute while Ben sets up:)

Bradford Knight does some readjusting to Helle's lips before the next set is taken. Trying to keep a really glossy lip is harder than you would imagine. Especially with Helle and her great hair whips that kept me entertained for hours.
Helle strikes some strong poses for the finale of the shoot. I am so happy that I ended up with her. She lived up to my expectations and more. I was so thrilled with her movement throughout the day. She was always thriving to push beyond to make the shot come alive. Hopefully I am able to work with her again soon.

RESULTS START TO ROLL IN

I am starting to see results fro older shoots I have done in the past and I feel like I am seeing old friends when I look at the photographs because I feel so connected to all the new models when I work with them. It is so great to know that they will flourish and progress beyond these test shots into magazines as well as I am hoping to do the same. I have attached a few images that I like:

SUPREME GIVES CREDIT
I was starting to get a little torn down by everything lately and just as I was loosing hope I received an e-mail from Jenn. Supreme was able to use images of the shoot I style for Isabelle. I was so happy to go the website and see something so great and know that you took part in it! Here are the shots they used. Forgive the size. I am still waiting to receive images from the photographer because he is so busy. But I am excited to receive those as well to share them with everyone. Here are the ones they used:

OLD AND NEW
So this week has been filled relationships old and new:) I am so happy to have been around long enough to even say that. Today while working the front door of BCBG Max Azria I happen to run into a really great friend from years ago Katharina Rembi. I just happen to look up and there she was with her mom shopping on 5th Ave. It had been so long since I had seen her and I was happy we were able to catch up. She showed me some amazing shots she had just done for Elle in Italy which were stunning on her phone. After being so happy that happened I ran into Ginta LaPina of Women Model Management. She was so nice and stayed and talked with me for a little while about fashion week and what she would be doing for her vacation before everything started up for September here in NYC. I love running into people that make me happy and have such a positive outlook on life. As well as truly enjoy what they are doing. Here are two pictures of the girls thanks to google seeing that I forgot my camera that day:( I know!!!! uggh!

HOUSE OF DEREON

SoI had the pleasure of going to a press event for The House Of Dereon. They are coming out with bedding! Yes bedding. Beyonce and Tina Knowles have decided that the next market to hit is bedding and home goods. So I thought I would give you guys a sneak peek at what was happening. All of the bedding had names that referred to songs like "Dejavu' and "sweet dreams". I was so happy to see all the creams and pearls. It was all so flirty and girly. Which is what I would except from the diva sasha fierce:) Hand beaded pillows and dress pleated comforters added a feel or vintage romance that I am drawn too. Although I loved most of it I am concerned that most people will hate it only because there are so many celebs doing "fashion." But however at a price point of $149.00 for 9 pieces there might still be a chance that it will survive.

SECOND TIME AROUND

So at the last minute I was called on to do a shoot with Benjamin Stone again:) I love when things are last minute...not, but however he is so nice I could never say no. We did a continuation of the story we started with Isabelle but with a more mature looking girl so that she could take on the roll as like an older sister in the spread. The model was Maree of Marilyn Models. To be honest I wasn't really impressed when I saw her on set and when the camera started to click away she still wasn't.....ON! But after some coaching and manipulating she started to get in the swing of things. She was super nice and open to receiving guidance from us so that we could get what we wanted out of her. I will say... trying to go back and reshoot something is not a fun task. On second hand we did a few beauty shots with another model. The makeup was done again by Bradford Knight and the shoot was creatively lead by the amazing Jennifer Chen ( I adore her).

Chana, the amazing hair artist (i have to find out her name:() and myself strike a pose while things re being set up.
Bradford Knight and hair stylist tackle Maree for the last change. While Jenn takes some photos for her blog Wonderland Express. We were on a tight tight schedule. It was 12:40 here and we had to be done by 1:00!!! (yes, we made it happen)
Jenn and Ben (heheh) chat over some last minute changes and ideas.

FORESHADOWING CHANGE

So I might have some exciting news coming up soon, but I am not sure that I am ready tell or even if I am in a place to tell it. Well for me it's exciting news because it will make me happier than I am at the moment and will elevate my current level of employment. Also I have been contacted by Benjamin Stone again to test this saturday. YAY! Supreme Management was happy to see what he had done with Isabelle Nicolay. I have one of those shots as well. This image is also not retouched yet, but still you get the drift. She was completely opposite from Charlene which was awesome to see.

FINALE WITH TYRA BANKS AND ANDRE LEON TALLEY

So here are some of the final results for the shoot I assisted with Beagy Zielinski. The day was so long and drawn out, but I guess that is what it takes to survive and make it happen. Sarah Silverman was an amazing photographer and worked in a silent, but deadly manner. I never knew when she was taking the photo. But somehow she managed to get results that Tyra was happy with.

So here is the royal family all together. I think it turned out great. And yes if you look that is the cloak that I had to steam out for Andre. He was so hesitant to let anyone touch it, but me or Beagy. It was so heavy and long. Me being 5'9" didn't help the situation when it came time to dressing him either.
LaQuan Smith fixing one of his designs on set.
Tyra takes on so many faces. But here she decided to keep it fierce in the courts costume that was mailed in from God knows where in 100's of pieces. Tie here, pull here, tuck here, zipper and clamp there. It was craziness getting this one, but it was all worth it to pay a tribute to Alexander McQueen.
j'adore the Pam Hogg shoes. I tried them on at the fitting. To small though:(

ON THE SET WITH
TYRA BANKS AND
ANDRE LEON TALLEY

So I have had these images for the longest time, but could not share them until they were released on Tyra's website. So now that they are released I can get on with it and share my images. This shoot was the every first project that I took on with stylist Beagy Zielinski. It was something like nothing I had ever experienced before. I remember emailing to see if she need an intern and she responded right away and said "yes! you start tomorrow and we will be working with Tyra Banks and Andre Leon Talley." I could of died. Little did I know what hard work was in store for me. I had pick-ups for three days all over the city. AlBright, Clear, BPCM, Bergdorf Goodman, F.A.O Schwartz, Barneys, and many many more. I think the most challenging part was trying to find Tyra a waffle robe to wear on set. Ugghh that drove me crazy, but Beagy finally found one and everything was fine. The shoot ended up being amazing well for the most part. Every was fine until I was steaming Andre's Ralph Rucci cloak and spelled the water all over the back of it!!!!!!!!!! DIE! DIE!DIE! But thank God it was dry before he called me to bring it out. The fashion Gods were on my side that day.

Tyra sets the mood and hones in while the photographer gets set up
Andre Leon Talley brightens the mood and shows some teeth on set
Ralph Rucci for you know who?...No one other than Andre Leon Talley
Yes, these are all the clothes we had to pull to make the shoot happen. It was a mad house, but somehow it all manages to come together. I remember running around to all the showrooms picking-up and dropping off for Beagy. The workload was insane, but well worth it in the end.
If you know me then you know I am huuugggeee fan of costume jewelry or any jewelry at all. I loved the crystal top hat that Tyra wore in some queen of today shots.
shoes, shoes, and more shoes, Yes do you see all the names floating here? McQueen, Pam Hogg, Guiseppe Zanotti, and more

MICHAEL BRAMBILA IS FASHION

Without a doubt the world of blogging has grown. People are now more opinionated than ever. But what makes one persons blog different from the next? Well for me there is some about the tumbler started by Michael Brambila that catches my eye. Currently attending Parsons New School for Design studying in the fashion department. He is always so intuned with what is happening in fashion, but seems to make it personal. His use of the word "hella" adds a quirky twist to his page and makes me realize that fashion isn't so serious. He has managed to maintain his own style from day one with the photoshopped imagery taken by himself to create inspiration boards and lookbooks of his own hand crafted clothing. Something else that can not go unnoticed about his tumbler is his HUGE obsession with Parsons graduates Lazaro and Jack of Proenza Schouler. So take a minute and check him out. I promise you won't be disappointed. click the link below.

TESTING IT OUT!

Wow! So I get home last night after the shoot and I already had some photos waiting for me in my inbox. I was so excited to open it up and see the amazing results. The photographer Benjamin Stone had surprised me with some untouched shots that blew my mind. I think if you look at this picture of Charlene you can see what I was saying about her eyes. Amazing! I am beyond thrilled and can not wait to see the final results.

ISABELLE AND CHARLENE

Today I had the pleasure of shooting at the MAC PRO Showroom. I started the day at 7am. I ran to BCBG to pull some final looks and headed over to set up. I love shooting at MAC because the lighting is always so beautiful. It makes me feel so professional for some odd reason ( i know i know) I went through two steamers and finally got one to work for me. The first model to arrive was Isabelle who has signed with Supreme Management. She was sooo cute and polite. At first she was a little timid to show personality, but as soon as the first flash flickered she transformed. I was amazed at her strong sense of awareness with her body at such a young age. She was able to mold herself into each look and create an ora that everyone on set was able to get lost in. After sending her on her way the next model had already arrived. Charlene from Ford Models. From the beginning I was able to really connect with her. Her eyes told an amazing story with out any effort. Charlene brought something different to the set. She was able to create strong shapes and movement that reminded me of my days in ballet class. Graceful yet powerful she held her own and was able to keep us intrigued. I am looking forward to seeing the final results.

INTERNING WITH StyleLikeU

I have started my 1st day as a intern for StyleLikeU. 525 w. 12th street is where it all happens. The unexpected craziness surrounds me as I enter the unlocked door to suite 1. Names of designers fill the 2 story apartment. Contact sheets, phone numbers, and photos add to the beautifully lit space. Some interns sit in a backroom while some sit downstairs, but everyone is working. Who is heading this mad house? well no but Elisa Goodkind. Warm hearted and opened mined she takes me in as apart of her team as if she has known me forever. I feel completely comfortable and want to give creatively what I can. This has been a great start thus far with StyleLikeU. check them out at www.StyleLikeU.com

BEHIND THE SCENES

Here is a sneak preview to the first shoot for MEDUSA. These raw behind the scenes photos were taken by Parsons student Kathryn Nicole Zwan. I was very inspired by tribal dances and wanted to convey a strong sense of movement. I would like to give thanks to photographerJason Kim. He was able to capture a sense of freedom within the photos. The styling was done by Jarrod K and Megan Luby. Also thanks to M.A.C. Cosmetics for their amazing artist and facility.
